WHEELCHAIRS & MOBILITY SCOOTERS

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has produced a series of educational materials about the safe use of wheelchairs and mobility scooters on public transport and on footpaths.

The educational materials have been developed to increase awareness of safe travel with a wheelchair or mobility scooter in Queensland. In particular, they are intended to help raise awareness of public transport requirements and Queensland registration requirements.

This information will assist your passengers to more easily use your services by providing useful information about the appropriate size of their mobility device to access public transport and how to use it onboard.

The education materials include:

    • A 36 page booklet which includes what to consider when buying a device, how to register a motorised wheelchair and guidance on using a device on footpaths and on public transport
    • A 6 page brochure highlighting the most important information in the booklet
    • An information bulletin on the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport 2002

The educational materials are available on the Department of Transport and Main Roads website. If you are able to provide a link to this website on your organisation’s website or in any publications, it may be of further assistance to passengers and visitors.

You may also wish to display copies of these publications where possible, such as at boarding and alighting points.

Please contact the Public Transport Policy Branch on 13 12 30 or at ptaccessible@tmr.qld.gov.au if you require further information or supplies of posters, booklets and brochures.
